What is Arena?
Arena: Sword of Freedom is a very basic, home-grown, online gladiatorial combat game. Players own gladiatorial houses in the Roman Empire,
buying and training gladiators who compete to win their owners glory and honour. The game is "asynchronous" - meaning orders are entered in advance of a deadline, at which the GM runs the game. Players have no control over their gladiator in the fights themselves: once you send your myrmillo to the ring, it's up to him. Your only hope is to train him well, and give him orders he can follow.
Arena requires a standard web browser, is numbers-based, and that's about it. I can't promise it will be very good: the game is to be regarded as a beta (at best), and is constantly evolving. It is neither polished nor flawless, but is done for the fun of it. There is no charge to play - a fixed number of free places are available.
Arena has lasted several game years, runs to weekly deadlines, and requires a log on to access the game.
