This one caught me by surprise. After all, I've never
been much of a fan of sim games, but I've just re-installed (!) this
venerable game on my PC. The fact that it's now approaching 18 months old shows
how much I lack something more compelling.
I'm told Pharoah is built on the strength of Caesar, which I've never played.
However, this does a superb job of creating a credible look and feel for Ancient
Egypt. For that alone I bought it after a brief intro by Rich John. The game
balance is good, challenging without being pointlessly taxing, and it steers
a good course between burdening the player with maintenance chores at one extreme,
and over-simplifiaction at the other. Not an all-time classic for me, but a
gentle diversion for which I'm grateful.
